Custom / Simplified Maps with OpenHeatMap and / or OpenStreetMap

I am working on a project with OpenHeatMap , which overall seems like a great, simple, well-executed project. It meets all my needs, except that it uses OpenStreetMap to map it, and I cannot find a way to reduce the level of detail that it represents. Ideally, I would just like to show a very high level of presentation of one state and not to mess, but I can’t find a way to do this on OpenStreetMap or OpenHeatMap.

Any tips? OpenHeatMap allows you to set the map tile source, but I also could not find a source other than OSM.

"I also could not find a source other than OSM." It’s good that many OpenStreetMap renderings work by different people. Here are a few listed here .

Try setting the map source to one of them. For example, you might like the rendering of MapQuest OpenStreetMap. And with CloudMade, you can actually create your own style (so drop some details that you don't need)
