IIS - "The system cannot find the specified file."

I am creating an asp.net web application that runs at the local and intermediate levels. however, when I turned around to live, a little strange problem arose. The following is live data.

living environment:

  • Server 2003
  • IIS 6

when the request URL is below, if the page is not found, it is redirected to the 404 page configured in IIS. "Http://www.xxxx.com/folder1/default.aspx"

however, when the request URL is below (with a dot in the folder), it will display an IIS default message 404, which says "The system cannot find the specified file." which is not what I configured in IIS, and it looks like it skips all the http handlers and modules. Therefore, my custom http handler stops working with this type of URL.

I assume this is due to IIS setup. I have several studies, there is no other problem like me.

appreciated if anyone can help. Many thanks.
