Resources for kinetic motion creation algorithms

I play with ideas for an iPhone application that requires me to recreate the movement of objects in the real world, like objects in 2D. Many games do such things. My math skills are a little weak in this area, so I'm looking for some guidelines on resources (websites) on coding techniques to recreate these things. The two that I want to start with are gears and levers.

So, for example, if I want to work out the position of the second gear based on the movement of the first, then what an effective way to do it. Notice, I’m talking about efficiency, I don’t care if the algorithm uses some kind of trickery to circumvent a lot of geometry or mathematics of physics. The goal is to calculate the final result as quickly as possible so that I can draw it on the screen.

Any suggestions?
