How did Google set up an HTTP link when someone clicks a link to a search result?

Google sets an HTTP link when someone clicks a link to a search result. This referrer is different from the address indicated in the URL address bar (for example, it contains the GET cd parameter, which indicates the position of the search result by clicking the link).

This seems to be done using javascript. I would like to do something similar on my website, so I would be interested to know how exactly this “referral manipulation” can be accomplished using javascript.

Any ideas?
