A few "similar buttons" on the page

I have a page with 20 articles, and for each article I have a Facebook Like button implemented using a tag.

Because of this, my site slowed down a lot because Firefox makes a background request for each of these buttons.

Is there anything I can do to reduce this load?

In my experience, all additional IFRAMES are actually faster than using the JavaScript SDK, even if Like icons should load non-synchronously. I have a page with about 18 buttons on it, and at least the IFRAME approach does not lead to perceived slowdown for users like the JS version - the only drawback is that the "Like" and "pop" buttons on the page are a bit at the end of IFRAMES.
