I heard that the doctrine makes PHP code slow, which is understandable. People found suggested using caching of the operation code to improve it a bit. Can't we do it a little further and make it part of php?
Is the doctrine of general http://www.doctrine-project.org/projects/common only extends class loading and adds support for annotations? Why not make the whole doctrine as a php extension something like GD?
This would mean rewriting Doctrine in C, so it can be loaded as an extension in the first place. This is not a small feat due to the size and complexity of Doctrine.
