Semantic question regarding NSURLRequest and HTTP Cookies

I was browsing Apple's documentation and I cannot figure out whether cookies are stored or used for each instance of NSURLConnection or just one instance. Cookies seem to hang even after I released individual instances of NSURLConnection, but I'm not sure my tests are exhaustive. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
