Lua - File Access and Application Management?

Question

How would a person use the Lua scripting language to do things like this:

Opening and managing an application, such as IE, accessing the C drive and the current directory in which the .lua file is located, to modify, move, create and delete files.

Any links to links for this will be appreciated, I cannot find any clear documentation anywhere.

Generally speaking, Lua does not have such embedded material. Lua is a minimalist programming language, great for implementation. The main language uses only the facilities available on the C89. If you need bells and whistles, you need to add Lua libraries.
