Google chrome frame - how does it work?

I look in a chrome frame and I wonder how it works. http://scriptsrc.net shows that this is javascript that can be embedded in the page ....

http://code.google.com/chrome/chromeframe/ shows it as an installation file ... JS prompt for installation or something else?

JavaScript should detect it and enable it, if any. (scriptsrc just gives you a link to a file that is located on Google’s CDN.) The end user must perform a one-time installation, this is a plugin (like Flash or Java). Quoting this page in the google documentation:

Internet Explorer check()determines if Chrome Frame is installed. If not, the user will be prompted to install it.
