Defining the current user (Gmail contextual gadget)

I wrote a gadget for Gmail, and I want to make a request from it on my server. I read this tutorial Verifying Signed Requests
Now I know that the request to my server comes from Google, but how do I know which Gmail user is specific?

The only solution I know about is to use OAuth to get one of the Googles API channels (Documents, Contacts, etc.). Each of these channels has these fields that give you the name and email address of the authenticated user:

• feed.author.name. $ T
• feed.author.email. $
