Save something in jar

I have a java application which should save and load user settings. I want to save them in a file located in a JAR file, how can I do this?

It's impossible. Rather, consider using java.util.prefs.Preferencesone that is designed specifically for this purpose. See also this small guide .

To add to what Chris said, most security experts will tell you that this is usually a bad security practice allowing end-user applications to modify their own code. What you ask for will require it.
