Why do you (and many other people, too) immediately assume that self-service will cause problems (or more problems than hosting in IIS)?
We use a bunch of self-contained WCF services (inside Windows NT Services) almost exclusively, and I would not want it to be another way. For any serious hosting ready for production, I will always recommend self-hosting.
