Why do these Android controls look peculiar on the Galaxy S?

I'm having problems with this dialog as well as with another action - where the EditText control does not look right - and in both cases it seems that the center of the control is shifted one pixel or sides down one, I assume that these areas defined by a 9 patch.

Has anyone else experienced this and knows how to solve this? Could this be something related to subpixel rendering - like an iPhone, where mis-positioning of user interface controls causes blur? I also noticed that problems with table separators disappear at certain offsets (of course, a subpixel problem) - but also on this phone and on the HTC device.

Button at the bottom of the screen is deformed

All rendering problems disappeared when I set the minimum SDK level to 5 out of 3.
