Zune as dev / test for WP7 applications

I have an application for Windows Phone 7 to develop as a pet project and am going to get a phone just for testing my application. The application does not require call functions, so I was wondering if it makes sense to use Zune HD instead of a phone (trying to avoid a monthly fee). In short, how close are Zune HD and Windows 7 to testing simple “lob” apps that will eventually be sold as a Windows Phone 7 app?

This will not work, since applications must run on an O / S phone that does not run on Zune devices. Nice idea.

Zune HD is much slower than Windows Phone 7 processors. Zune HD runs at 600 MHz, while all Windows Phone 7 devices run at gigahertz.

It also does not work with the correct operating system.

You might be able to test games on Zune HD. It uses XNA, like Phone. The speeds (as stated above) would be different, but theoretically this would work.

It is hoped that perhaps the Zune HD2 might be at work.
