How can I code a firefox bookmark addon

Question

I am familiar with the basic development of FF addon and created the "test" button on the toolbar. Now, when I click on this button, I want my addon to read FF bookmarks. So simple.

Now I spent 3 days. Read countless tutorials, forums, and blogs. The official FF add-on development tutorials have passed, but this is a big mess. I am not sure where to look for this information.

All I need are API method / function links that can be called from within addon code to read FF bookmarks ...
