I don't know much about encryption, but I was able to get AES running in PHP ... a few. Here are some functions that I use:

They are slightly modified from a comment on the PHP documentation page for mcrypt . (I changed from dev_urandom to rand since I am in a window window where dev_urandom is not available.)
In any case, the key that I use in these functions is defined as follows:

I call my function as follows:
echo bin2hex(aes_encrypt("wootwootwootwootwootwootwoo", PSK));
Now the first 16 bytes (32 digits) of the resulting hexadecimal string are accurate. The next 16 bytes are not as expected.
