Latex: a problem with Multirow

Question

 I am creating a table with mulitrow, but I have a problem. As far as I understand, this is a form of multi-growth:

\multirow{count}{alignment}{content}

where count is the number of lines to combine, the alignment is l, c, r or *, and the content is the contents of the line. I tried the following:

\multirow{3}{*}{Framing}

but i have a problem. Instead of seeing the word "Framing" in the cell, I see "3 * Framing", which indicates that the \ multirow element is not working. Any idea?

Also, how can I align text in a cell vertically?

UPDATE: I thought that \ usepackage {multirow} would solve it, but I still see problems: Firstly, I cannot do vertical alignments. Secondly, I get the weird thing with the "Framing" cell. Instead of getting the left-aligned “Framing”, I get one virtual string containing the letter “l,” and then after two virtual strings I get the word “Framing” !! This is something like this:
