Cannot start debugging on the web server. Visual studio 2008

I am running Visual Studio 2008 SP1 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64-bit. I get the following exception when I try to debug from IIS.

"Cannot start debugging on the web server. The object identifier is not a valid object."

IIS and Visual Studio are in the same window.

I tried turning on Windows authentication but no luck (my application requires form authentication, fyi).

Any thoughts? I have a binding on a website. The IIS application is a Web SIte, not a virtual one.

Thank!

PS
I posted this as a new question, since the previous question I found did not answer, and the solution provided in this question also does not work.

When I ran into this problem, I opened the basic settings in IIS and checked the set of application pools for the website. It was set to "Default", and not (as it should be in this case) to ".NET 2". Changing this setting was a fix.
