I have an OpenGL based game for Mac.
Compatibility with Mac OS X 10.5 is required, returning to almost all Macs that Leopard can intelligently handle, returning to G4 Powerbooks.
I build my sprite sheets / texture atlases for submission to OpenGL, and you need to set the maximum size of the texture.
Q. What is the maximum texture size a 5 year old Mac can reasonably accommodate? Will I safely create 1024x1024 sprite sheets?
Q2. Will all such equipment be able to handle the weakness of two textures?
Greetings.
[edit]
I found the following (very useful!) Resource:
http://homepage.mac.com/arekkusu/bugs/GLInfo_1058.html
From this list, which supports 10.5.8 as the minimum requirement, it would seem that everything I need to run the game supports the maximum texture size of 2048x2048, which makes me very happy, since using large sprite sheets negates the need for NPOT textures.
