During development, you will want to use the emulator to test your programs, since its quickest option is to promote visualboy.

However, at some point you may want to run your games on "Real Iron", you can do this using Flash Carts, however they are usually less common than a rocking horse. I use SuperCard MiniSd (Cartdrige, which reads discs with mini SD), so you can have all the games, as well as your own programs.
