Upgrading Zend Framework from Version X to Version Y

Whenever I update the Zend Framework, I study the changelogs ( http://framework.zend.com/changelog ), but still feel like I'm experiencing a small leap of faith so that my application does not interrupt.

So far I have not had any problems. Most of the application is under unit test and web test. But the tests do not cover 100%, so the whole process of updating ZF is still a little unnerving.

So the question is ...

Where can I find the final information about interface changes and "backward compatibility breaks" when upgrading from "ZF version X" to "ZF version Y"?

Also, if someone has general guidelines for updating code to improve vendor code, this will be interesting.

i.e.

  • Are you writing a unit test suite to work with all the infrastructure components used by your application?

Also, any comments on upgrading from ZF 1.8 to 1.11 will be welcome in the comments.

ZF has a strict release policy

  • The main release may contain any changes, including bug fixes, backward compatible functions and feature enhancements, as well as incompatible versions in the opposite direction.
  • A small version may contain only backward compatible changes, including bug fixes and backward compatible features and feature enhancements.
