Which Drupal wysiwyg editor will give me the most control over markup?

I am currently using the wysiwyg module for Drupal with tiny_mce. However, he continues to insert all kinds of excess gaps and other garbage items into my markup. I want to use wysiwyg mainly for semantic markup with css classes, any inline styles are a problem, because I have to manually clear my html - it seems like it doesn't lend itself to have a wysiwyg editor at all. What other wysiwyg editor should I try, which will behave more wisely?

I really wanted to go with CKEditor myself, but trying to get rid of this by adding breaks and spaces everywhere, I had to go back to direct text input.

I am currently considering markitup! which you can also explore. I hope I have good experience with WP, but I have not been able to try it on Drupal so far.

WYMeditor , available through the WYSIWYG API , is not the most fancy editor, but it does create XHTML markup.

BUEditor , integrated through the BUEditor module, is an easily extensible system that makes it easy to define buttons and related markup. This is a favorite of my colleague’s seductive, so I think it’s good.

I came to terms with simple text editing in Drupal when I had a small chance that I might need to manage basic HTML. My WYSIWYG editor is disabled by default; I have a white page as needed. It's tiring, but for me it's better than playing tug-war with WYSIWYG for control.
