Change the path for android sdk and avd manager so as not to point to c: \ users

Is there a way to change this in the Android SDK? It appears that some of the .bat files in the \ tools \ folder set some environment variables, but cannot tell exactly what they are doing.

I set the Windows profile profile settings in the registry to point to d: \ users, and everything else points there, but android sdk all the time wants to put things in c: \ users ...

My reasoning for this is that I have a much faster drive, since my d-drive (5 raid0 drives), and my system drive is a 5400 capable drive ...
