What is the best way to do comets / long polls in rails?

Either existing libraries or a discussion of how to implement it will be fine. I am trying to find a solution that does not require thread blocking. I found some solutions (e.g. juggernaut and orbited) and wondered what else was there.

You can try something like cramp http://m.onkey.org/2010/1/7/introducing-cramp , I was also lucky with the node.js server along the rails server to handle long polls and network outlets.
