How to disable "USB Over Current Notification" pop-ups in Finder on Mac OS X 10.6?

On Intel iMac (model MB324LL / A) (currently running 10.6.4) every few minutes (or seconds) I get a Finder popup:

Because the USB device was consuming too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices were disconnected.

In the console, a console message:

USB Notificaton: The EHCI Root Hub Simulation @ 0xfa000000 device caused an extremely accurate state. The hub to which it is attached has been disconnected.

What I want: a way to prevent these messages from appearing in Finder. Any solution that prevents or reduces irritation will be most appreciated.

For reference: this happens with ours without USB devices connected, with any boot disk I tried. I reset SMC and PRAM. I guess this is a motherboard, and I'm just looking for the cheapest way to make this a convenient paper, a drag web browser.

Thank!

This is not a great solution, but you can stop messages using

sudo launchctl unload -w / System / Library / LaunchDaemons / com.apple.UserNotificationCenter

They will still appear in the system log (because a hardware error still exists), but it stops the pop-up dialog messages.
