Writing temporary files in the iPhone application

Question

I'm just wondering what the behavior of the temporary directory is in the iPhone app. (If my memory is correct, there is a tmp directory in the same place as Documents)

What happens if I save some files there ?, will they be automatically deleted when my application is completed, or should I do it manually? in this case. What would be the difference between the Documents folder?
