Update
This question went on the wrong foot. Let me ask a question as follows:
Say I wanted to show my StackOverflow badge "flair" in an email signature in Outlook. Obviously, I would like the image to be updated whenever I reply to an email or forward an email. Now, assuming that I (and others) decided to allow the upload of images with me (who in this case we will call the "trusted source"), then they would see that my bright icon was updated on subsequent loads. If I copy and paste this icon into a new email, then the image will not be updated on subsequent page loads, because Outlook has embedded the image and broken the link to the original image.
I fully understand all the comments about spam, but this question is about Outlook VML and its manipulation. If the answer is always and forever "spam! With your head!" that is good. I get it, but it seems to me that there may be situations where someone may not want the default behavior of Outlook to change the message they receive.

We have an internal mail system that dynamically generates and sends HTML emails. We have a web beacon created by an HTTP handler. The system works as expected: users receive emails, and we track their opening when the web beacon is called.
