Firefox does not display rss feed with interface

Question

Firefox displays an interface for RSS instead of an XML feed. For example, goto: http://www.alistapart.com/site/rss

For some reason, this feed shows XML in Firefox instead of an interface: http://www.mmpa.net/feeds/upcoming-events.rss

The xml and content-type headers are the same. Does anyone see what I'm missing? Who cares?

It revealed!

Firefox does not correctly handle the RSS feed if it is compressed. (This seems to be what my tests show, but I did not find anyone to take it.)

Our apache installation is configured for gzip answers. One of the headers:

Content-Encoding: gzip
