Can I upgrade existing applications in the application store if I rejected my distribution certificate because I lost my private key?

I spent a lot of time on the Internet and just can not find the answer to this question. I lost my private key, and so I rejected and reassigned a new certificate / key combination, but I am having problems sending application updates to applications signed with the old key using my new key.

Is it possible to update an existing application with a recently replaced private key that is different from the one with which it was originally signed?
