Which server is best for image hosting?

Question

I want to move the whole site (developed in ASP.NET) to another server. The image hosting server should be designed only for image processing, such as image resizing, etc.

Which server is best for this? Taking another IIS server will require additional investment. Can I go for Apache or Lighttpd instead?

Also, the server should be able to process / resize images, even if there is a large load. Please tell me which one is better?
