Using 32-bit COM add-on under MS Office 64 bit

I'm struggling to apply an existing 32-bit COM addon to 64-bit Microsoft Word 2010.

To make the addition visible to Word, I used the dllsurrogate method as described here .

The problem is that now addin caused some strange exception when trying to add its toolbar and menu to the office. I can’t understand what it is, it seems that the link on the command line has become invalid at unpredictable moments.

Can anyone explain this?

Please note that everything is fine when I use the same add-on under 32-bit Microsoft Word 2010 and older versions of Ms Office.

32-bit add-ins are not supported on the 64-bit version. Microsoft recommends using the 32-bit version of Office if you are not using the memory limits of the 32-bit process, which can only happen if you need to deal with extremely large spreadsheets:

Office 2010 release recommendations for installation:

  • Office, ActiveX, , , Office, 32- , Office, 32- Office 2010 ( ) , 32- 64- Windows.

  • Excel, Excel 2 (), 64- Office 2010. , 64- Office 2010, 64- Office 2010.
