Scenario. There is an outdated program (not sure which language), and I was asked "Compact and Archive forms in the database." At the moment the user opens the application, it takes about 2-5 minutes to download about 27,000 entries! My theory is that it loads all records at startup, but this may not be the only reason. After some searching and finding the end-of-access, which looks correct, I also found the same access files for 15+ other shares in the company. Now this application was created around 1997, when I assume that access was normal, but will they really capture data from 15+ Access databases? What seems to be the norm for speeding up this program is to archive old records in another access database (so I thinkthat it loads everything at startup.
Question . I have a meeting on Monday to discuss the program, and wondered if anyone could offer some useful questions, theories, solutions, etc. It’s not that I can’t do it on my own. Actually, I just think that another perspective cannot hurt. Another interesting fact is that I can or cannot get the source code, because it can be created by a contractor and long-lost code.
Side note . Will there be access to auto archiving old records? This would mean transferring them to another database called XXXArch.
Thanks in advance. I will try to answer any of your questions.
