How to increase buffer in virtualized Flex 4 layouts

Question

Virtualized layouts are good, but I find that they often feel a little “short” due to the “tightness” of the virtual range. This can be improved by increasing the range - one or two steps forward (and back) will often be enough to improve the responsiveness of the list, especially when you need to load external resources (for example, images).

How to implement this?
