How do I make a built-in jquery autocomplete that starts with a specific character record and looks for a modified ui.term

I have a text box in which I write notes. When I enter a specific character, such as "@", I want to create a built-in autocomplete JQuery that looks for a term that matches the characters after "@".

An example of textarea input might be:

Please call @John Citizen regarding his order.

Any ideas?
