Best "free" JMS implementation (which doesn't crash all the time)

Which is the best free or licensed GNU-licensed JU server. We want something that is easy to install and “just works” without undue interference on our part.

We are open to other solutions that do not support JMS or even Java, but there should have been good reasons to use another non-Java solution with our Java applications. It should also be lightweight, SOAP, for example, does not work well when you are dealing with millions of messages.

Background

We already had one run into messaging using Active MQ. This turned out to be remarkable, except for the fact that Active MQ mysteriously dies every few days without any clue as to what went wrong. We probably averaged around 1-2 million messages per day. We ended up working out a solution because we need something that will not fall every night when we are in bed.

You can try Lingo . However, I did not encounter problems with Active MQ. How did it fail?

EDIT:

Lingo is dead, ignore this part of my answer.
