What happens between the Page.PreLoad and Page.Load events?

The question is pretty straightforward.

Is there a technical reason for the existence of Page.PreLoad or is it just a convenience to have a place where you can neatly place code that should always be executed before the download code?

Is there any difference between adding code to the PreLoad event handler and adding code to the top of the load event handler?

What will be the typical scenario for using PreLoad?

Thank!
