JQuery Quicksand: CSS applied after loading JS causes harsh behavior

I am using the jQuery Quicksand plugin to filter the list by date.

It works for me, as in the above examples, but the filter is applied to elements <li>that load as block, and then after all the elements have loaded CSS float:left. Making the whole process look a little nervous and messy.

I cannot understand why this does not happen with the examples on the Quicksand website, where the lists disappear and then reappear. I carefully looked at CSS and tried many options durationand easing, but the same thing happens.
