Write once to run any plug-in tool in the browser / framework / language?

Question

I am looking to create a plugin for a browser that will work in all major browsers, the only problem is that it seems to me that I have to recreate the plugin in each browser. Is there any tool or framework or language in which I can write a plugin where it will automatically work on all major browsers?

All I need is a button to delete the contents of the web page from the active page and from several linked pages, then send it to the program with sockets or named pipes.
