How to poll a simple site for updates?

I have a professor who accidentally updates his homework website tomorrow and seems to expect us to check it every hour.

It sounds like a task for a program.

His site is simple and completely html, not even javascript. How can I programmatically detect any changes / updates on my website?

Extract and md5 contents of each page. Then save and compare with the previous values. Please note that this is character level sensitive.

Alternativelly, Google site:your-professors-website.com , rss.

configure the cron job to periodically wget or twist the url, then grep for the corresponding text, then send an email if interesting results are found ...
