I screwed vim / gvim on ubuntu royally. how can i go back to the square

I tried to be super-productive and tried to imitate my vim profile by grabbing their .vim file from github. However, now vim and gvim are completely confused. syntax highlighting does not work, snipMate does not work and much more.

How can I get back to the square? How to completely remove vim and gvim and install from scratch.

sudo aptitude reinstall vim

Does not help.

Settings are stored in hidden files (which begin with a period) in the home directory.

Try deleting these files:

  • ~ / .vimrc
  • ~ / .vim (directory)
  • ~ / .gvimrc
