Good user interface design: how to handle an empty ListView?

My application connects to the network and populates a ListView. Sometimes nothing comes back. What is the best way to notify the user that the list is empty?

Some of my own suggestions:

  • Show "No Results" in the first ListItem
  • Show a new view that says "No results"

ListView allows you to show an alternative view when it is empty:

http://developer.android.com/reference/android/widget/AdapterView.html#setEmptyView(android.view.View)

, ListActivity, android: id = "@android: id/empty", .

, ListView FrameLayout , , , .
