An interesting programming technology from the old days

Question

If you are an old programmer or a history of programming / computing, then what interesting programming / computing technology did you like that is marginalized today?

In other words, with what technology do you miss the old days?

ps: feel free to make this question sound more english

APL , before I heard about functional languages, I had the opportunity to play with this language full of funny characters and mathematical operators. It was like hieroglyphs, but it was so succinct and expressive! And it was good to get nervous with my more traditional students studying in Pascal or C: p

I can’t think of something that I missed in particular. Things I have not missed:

• x86 segmented architecture
• extended / expanded memory
• DOS TSR
• IPX
• config.sys / autoexec.bat
