Installing a version of Ruby with rvm froze my computer - can I check if it is installed correctly?

I recently upgraded my Linux installation from Mint 9 (based on Ubuntu 10.04), 64-bit, without Ruby packages, and started with a clean rvm installation.

But when I started rvm install 1.9.2, after half an hour or so due to the heavy use of the processor, the computer completely froze. I turned it off and restarted it, and rvm tells me that ruby-1.9.2-p0 is installed.

Same story when I started `rvm install 1.8.7 'just now.

Should I be surprised? More importantly, how do I know if installed Ruby versions will actually work correctly - do I have a test that I can run?

How fast is your computer? Everything matters here. On a slow computer, especially if it doesn't have much RAM, collecting large projects can be painful. I remember that my netbook really struggled with compiling Ruby. It took about an hour and a half. And what about updated RAM, if I had 512 MB or something else, it would take a lot more time.

Edit: I can only guess what you mean by “freeze”, but I assume that you have run out of RAM and they cheated on SWAP. This can be restored if you are patient, but it would be easier to reboot if this happens.
