I am very happy about the personal project, should I do it in PHP or Rails (but first I need to learn Rails)

I started learning Rails only a few days ago, but at the same time I was very worried about a personal project. The project is healthy enough and will require several months. Right now, I can't wait to start doing this project, but I was a little reluctant to write it in PHP.

I have been working in PHP for over a year now and I am very good at it. Ruby on Rails, however, is a mystery to me, and it will probably take me two or three weeks before I even start coding Rails badly.

So my question is: should I start my project in PHP and postpone learning Rails or first get the basics of Rails and execute the project in Rails.

The project consists of working with a lot of data taken from google search.

That sounds like a dumb question, I know.

Thank.

I was in the same situation recently and I went with Rails. I definitely recommend it. It’s worth the effort to learn Ruby first β€” I read the Why (Poignant) Guide and it worked fine for me. Plus, get Agile Web Development with Rails - a great introduction. If you have time, you can learn enough to get started in a week or two.
