I am trying to use rrdtool to control access points, and I would like to have a separate rrd file for each access point, which I'm not sure how to do this. In any case, if I can do this, then for each site I can get a graph from different rrd databases in accordance with the location of the site. However, when I want to see a company level graph, I would like to combine the data in several rrd databases and get them to be displayed on one graph, so if bandwidth is measured for two devices in two separate rrd databases, I would like to get the "average" from these two data sources and show it in my graph for a site that has these access points. Is it possible? I have a completely new approach to RRD and rrdtool, so please let me know if there are better ways to do this.
Also, how does RRD use the space inside? From what I have read so far, there are people saying that the file size never increases for the RRD database. On the other hand, people are asking about what file size will accumulate over the years. So I'm a little confused. I thought this would keep the material in memory and write to disk based on consolidated functions.
Is it possible to create pie charts from rrdtool? I need to find the number of users connected to the access point, and it would be nice if I could show this as a pie chart for the total number of users connected to the access point at any given time for this site. For instance,
access point 1: 20 access point 2: 40 access poin 3: 1
If I can create a pie chart for this, it will be cut according to the number of users.
Sorry, these are quite a few questions. If rrdtool doesn't really matter, I could also use Mysql, since I have a mysql server running in production. And I can create graphics on the fly using some funky flash files. If someone can enlighten me for the pros and cons of using RRD over any DBMS for given time series that would be awesome.
Thanks guys!
