Restart apache, clear memcache contents?

I just wanted to find out if memcache is associated with apache or works as a separate process. So, will we restart apache to clear the contents of memcache or not?

No. Memcache is not associated with the apache process. Memcached is a separate process.

HOWEVER, your application framework, if you use it, can restart memcache if you restart apache.

You can also free memcached without reloading it:

telnet localhost 11211

11211 is the default port for memcached (if nothing is responding on this port, check your init script)

And in telnet:

flush_all

.
