SSIS Monitoring and Reporting

Our store relies heavily on SSIS to run our back end processes and database tasks. In general, we have hundreds of jobs, and for the most part, everything works efficiently and smoothly.

In most cases, we have a job failure due to an external dependency failure (data not available, files not delivered, etc.). Right now, our process is set up to send us an e-mail every time the job fails. SSIS will create an email that sends us the name of the job and the step that it did not complete.

I am looking at creating a toolbar to better control this process. I know that the same information available in the job history window from SSIS can also be obtained by querying the msdb database. I want to set up a central location for error reporting (possibly using SQL Reporting Services), as well as a more intelligent email notification system.

Has anyone else dealt with this problem? If so, what processes / reports did you create around SSIS procedures to optimize notification of failures or job alerts?
