Preferred Android developer phone for using ZXing library

Using this library, ZXing , we have a project in school in which we will implement an inventory system using Android phones.

We strive to use an Android phone for an inexpensive replacement:

I read some FAQs for some phones. Is there a specific phone that Android developers prefer (given the use of the ZXing library)? We must buy the phone ourselves, so we would rather not buy the wrong phone!
