How does Google Scribe work?

I am asking about the new Google Scribe feature. Here is the link: http://scribe.googlelabs.com/

I'm interested in the backend and interface, but mainly the backend. I want to build something similar with a very specific dataset (derived from my own documents). I think the interface of this is pretty simple, and I could probably even use the existing autocomplete plugin for the task.
