Http request for js and css file

On my website when I analyzed it. Shows that on my site there are 17 external js files and 4 css files. And recommended me to reduce the number of http requests made.

And my questions ...

1) Does a larger number of HTTP requests increase the overall rating?

2) If I reduce my HTTP requests, the union of the js file, js and css file will be larger. Is it possible to reduce the size?
